1.installation method
Whether it is indoors or outdoors, you must take anti-static measures when using the optical module, and ensure that you touch the optical module with your hands while wearing anti-static gloves or an anti-static wrist strap.
It is strictly forbidden to touch the golden fingers of the optical module when taking the optical module, and it must be handled gently to prevent the optical module from being oppressed and bumped. If the optical module is accidentally bumped during handling, it is not recommended to use the optical module again.
When installing the optical module, you must first insert it firmly, and then feel a slight vibration or hear a “pop” sound, which means that the optical module is locked in place. When inserting the optical module, close the handle ring; after inserting it, pull out the optical module again to check whether it is in place. If it cannot be pulled out, it means it has been inserted to the bottom. When removing the optical module, you need to pull out the optical fiber jumper first, and then pull the pull handle to about 90 degrees to the optical port, and then slowly take out the optical module. It is forbidden to pull the optical module out by force.
2.Measures to prevent light port pollution
In order to avoid cross-contamination of the optical port caused by the contamination of the end face of the optical jumper, the end face of the optical fiber jumper must be clean before inserting it into the optical port. Therefore, a fiber-wiping paper must be provided during installation to wipe the end face of the optical fiber jumper clean. If the optical module is not in use, it must be covered with a dust cap to avoid dust pollution (without a dust cap, it can be replaced by optical fibers). If the optical module is not used for a long time without a dust cap, the optical port must be cleaned with a cotton swab when it is used again.
3.Measures to prevent overload optical power
When using the OTDR meter to test the continuity or attenuation of the optical fiber channel, the optical fiber must be disconnected from the optical module first, otherwise it will easily cause the optical power to be overloaded and the optical module will be burned. The input optical power of the long-distance optical module is generally required to be less than -7dBm. If the input is greater than -7dBm, an optical attenuator is required to increase the optical attenuation. The formula is as follows: Assuming that the optical power at the transmitting end is XdBm and the optical attenuation is YdB, the The optical power must meet XY<-7dBm.
4.Optical port problem
The dust-free cotton swab used when cleaning the optical module needs to be selected according to the type of the optical port. Insert a dust-free cotton swab dipped in absolute alcohol into the optical port, and then rotate it in the same direction to wipe; then insert a dry dust-free cotton cloth into the rod, insert the rod into the optical port, and rotate and wipe in the same direction; When cleaning the end face, you need to use dry dust-free cotton. Wipe and clean the parts that are not in contact with your fingers. Do not wipe at the same place every time; For severely contaminated joints, soak the dust-free cotton cloth in absolute alcohol (not too much). The wiping method is the same as above. After wiping, please replace it with another piece of dry dust-free cotton, and repeat the cleaning to ensure that the end face of the joint is dry, and then perform the test.
5.ESD damage
ESD phenomenon is inevitable, but it can be prevented from two aspects: preventing the accumulation of electric charge and allowing the electric charge to discharge quickly: 1. Keep the environment within the humidity range of 30-75%RH; 2. Set a specific anti-static area and use an anti-static floor or workbench; 3. The related equipment used shall be grounded at a common ground point in parallel grounding to ensure the shortest ground path and the smallest ground loop. It cannot be grounded in series, and the design method of connecting ground loops with external cables should be avoided; 4. Operate in a special anti-static area. It is forbidden to place static electricity generating materials that are not necessary for work in the anti-static work area, such as plastic bags, boxes, foams, belts, notebooks, paper sheets, personal items, etc. that have not been treated with anti-static treatment. Items, these materials must be more than 30cm away from electrostatic sensitive devices; 5. When packaging and turnover, use anti-static packaging and anti-static turnover boxes/cars; 6. It is forbidden to perform hot-swappable operations on non-hot-swappable equipment; 7. Avoid using a multimeter to directly detect static-sensitive pins; 8. Do electrostatic protection work when operating the optical module (such as: bring an electrostatic ring or release static electricity by contacting the case in advance), touch the optical module shell, and avoid contact with the PIN pin of the optical module.
